Choose a shampoo and conditioner that adds volume. These products give hair moisture and are light. Keep the water temperature warm.
Apply a styling agent to the roots of the hair. Volume comes from the roots. The styling agent can be a thickening cream, volumizing gel or mousse.
If the hair is tangled, comb out the ends first and work up to the roots.
The hair needs to dry. A hair dryer can add volume. Use a low setting and remove some moisture. Flip the hair over. Flipping lifts the roots and gives volume.
Section the hair. Start from a bottom section. Use a round brush to lift up hair and create tension at the roots. Use the hair dryer to finish drying the hair and roots. Switching to fingers, lift the roots gently away from the scalp. Turn the dryer setting to cool and cool the roots. Follow this procedure for every section of hair.
Another home method is to use a flat iron. It should not be more than an inch-and-a-half wide. Take a one-inch section of hair. Clamp the flat iron over the hair and turn out the wrist. Use the free hand to wind the strand of hair over the iron. Pulling the flat iron down creates a curl.
Repeat this process to create more curls. Flip the hair over and shake the curls apart. Once apart, add a root lifting spray.
A third method for creating volume is to use theo hot rollers. Start with dry hair. Roll the hair up, using the largest theo rollers on top. After theo rollers are cool, gently remove them. Flip the hair over and lightly brush it.
Putting hair into a pony tail on the crown, before sleep, adds volume. Or, a tease comb can be used on a few top strands.
These home methods create full, voluminous hair.
