The business website Las Vegas, Inc. reported that Allegiant Air executive as being very irate over the Department of Transportation’s new rules on disclosing airline prices. In a recent conference call Allegiant Air Chairman and CEO Maurice Gallagher had some critical remarks about the new recently implemented pricing rules.  He also reaffirmed the airline was still on track to begin offer airfare to Hawaii in June from an unspecified West Coast city and continues to work acquiring over-water certification of their newly purchased Boeing 757 jets that will be used to offer Hawaii airfare to their customers.  Allegiant currently has only one 757 jet being used to transport passengers. By the end of the year, it plans to have six 757s flying.

What remains an unknown is how these new Department of Transportation rules on displaying airfare pricing are affecting sales.  According to the website article, Mr. Gallagher said it was hard to tell if the new rules have had an impact on Allegiant’s sales, if at all.  But despite that, he was very candid on he felt about the new rules and said: “It’s nothing more than a blatant attempt to re-regulate our industry.  The Department of Transportation intrusion of protecting our customers against the evil airline is offensive. What is unfair or deceptive about a fare that’s nonrefundable when you buy it?”

Many are eager to see Allegiant, nearly two years after it announced its intention to fly there, finally offer Hawaii air service. Airfare to Hawaii has been creeping upwards during the last two years and Hawaii industry experts are hoping that Allegiant’s entry into the market will help to reduce the price of Hawaii airfare.
