How Maternity DNA Testing Works
June 29, 2008 4:23 am HealthConducting DNA testing for maternity is very simple and painless. A special swab is used, called a buccal swab, that is made out of a material called Dacron. This swab is simply rubbed against the inside of the participant’s cheek to collect cells to be tested and compared to another participant’s DNA. The test can be done by a person at home, or by a third party such as a local agency to increase the accuracy of the results. After the results are available, you will be asked for several documents to prove your identity before the results can be revealed to you.
