Alternatives to Skype – SIP and More
January 17, 2012 6:45 am CommunicationsSkype is fantastic for chatting with friends, catching up with parents or for doing business on. But what happens if you’re unable to log on or it goes down for a few hours? Luckily, there are a few great alternatives to Skype, so you won’t feel too lost without it. Gizmo Project enables free or very inexpensive calls and offers public switched telephone network gateways, voice mail and SIP (Session Initiation Protocol). As well as being less of a bandwidth hog than Skype, iChat has excellent voice quality and ready integration iSight video cameras. Allowing you to video conference with up to six people at once, ooVoo is another option. Video messages are also available to send out so you don’t have to type everything you want to say!
