When my brother and I were comparing “dating notes” recently, he mentioned that a lot of the girls he’d been meeting seemed to be fiercely independent.

I’ve been working the last few years as a respiratory therapist at a Level 1 trauma center in New York. These days, I don’t know if a respiratory therapist salary is worth it there. I used to really thrive on the action, rushing in for the car crashes and gunshot wounds and such. Now, though, I just don’t have the energy. I still love being a r.t., but I’d love to work in a simpler setting, maybe with babies or in geriatrics or something. Really, would a couple of emphysema cases a day be too much to ask for? I’d even take a salary cut to move to a simpler kind of work.

My ex and I loved to go hiking every single weekend. We would go up in to the mountains where his family lived, and we would stay for weekends at a time. There was this beautiful mountain that had a tower on top of it. We hiked it every time we would visit. At the top, when we reached the tower, we would climb up the several flights of stairs. The guy that worked inside the tower was very nice, and always let us come inside and talk to him. He even had corning fiber optic cable up there, so that he would not get bored!
