Power Transformers

10:23 am Business

How does the electricity from a power station get reduced to the voltage for a home or business? The answer is a series of power transformers to gradually reduce the voltage level. As the power flows from the station it has an initial power reduction at the station, then carried by pylons it reaches electricity substations where further reductions in voltage take place – otherwise it would be unusable at the destination (you’d run through an awful lot more light bulbs). The power transformers have two or more connected internal coils, where the number of coils in the primary is smaller than the number of coils in the secondary, the voltage is reduced by the ratio of the two coils.
