New legislation for retention forms
April 30, 2009 6:30 pm AutosThe legislation which was passed in 2008 has finally become operative with the introduction of a new V317 transfer form for personalised number plates. The legislation allows for a separate Grantee to be appointed at the time of application. The applicant is always the registered keeper but now need not neccesarily be the Grantee. So the owner of the car, if he has sold the registration can retain the number but appoint the buyer as the grantee , giving hime full rights to the registration. Previously the new owner could only become nominee, leaving him exposed to potential inconvenience, loss of the number or even fraud.
